Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to try to analyze the effect of gender inequality and the quality of governance on human development in ECO member countries using a panel data model over the period 2010 - 2019. The results show that gender inequality has an indirect and significant relationship with human development. Also, institutional quality indexes including corruption control, government effectiveness, and regulatory quality, rule of law, voice and accountability have a positive and significant effect on human development, so that improving the quality of governance will prevent from worsening human development. Finally, according to the findings of paper, the focus of governments in ECO member countries on improving governance and reducing gender inequality at the same time is effective on improving human development.
