Abstract
This study investigates the association between human resource management (HRM) practices and employee commitment of Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) in Rivers State. Eighty (80) employees from 20 DMBs were sampled using judgmental sampling method. The data used were primary in nature and a close-ended structured questionnaire, designed in the Likert 5-point nature was used. From the 80 copies of questionnaires administered, 78 were considered valid and usable after screening. The analytical methods were both descriptive and inferential, with the descriptive statistical tools being frequencies and percentages. The Pearson product correlation method was the inferential method employed. The study established a significant positive correlation between the constructs of HRM practices (employee compensation, training, and performance appraisal) and employee commitment (with indicators of affective, normative, and continuance commitment). The study found HRM practices to be effectively related with employee commitment. It is recommended from that; periodic training for staff members should be organized to improve their human capacity and get them performing optimally.
